Born in China the eldest of three sisters, Alice and her family immigrated to South America where she spent her teenage years. Thus spanning two hemispheres, Alice’s interest in Alternative Medicine was kindled in her youth, steeped in the traditions of ancient oriental healing and in the homeopathic medicinal arts found in the jungles of South America. She and her family finally made it to the USA in her late teens, where she graduated college with honors with a degree in Pharmacology. Her college years represent more than an era of academic success, for they were spent in Manhattan, the island of endless galleries, where Alice’s deep interest in art blossomed. Well versed in the Far East and the Americas, after college Alice back-packed through Europe with her sisters, and later traveled to Israel and Egypt with her husband with whom she climbed to the pinnacle of Mr. Sinai.
Alice graduated Medical School in 1990. In 1994, she completed her residency at the University of California, Irvine and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), where she also served as Chief Resident. Thereafter, Alice began her crusade to bring medicine to the underprivileged by completing a medical mission in Granada, as well as her ongoing work with the Flying Samaritans (along with her pilot husband), with whom she runs a clinic in a small village in Mexico. As both Alice’s family and her husband’s family fled oppression to live free in America, all active duty military are treated at cost and often free at their clinics. It’s the least we can do say Alice and Asher, it’s our privilege and an honor to care for them.
In addition to her private practice in primary care, Alice served as an ER physician and director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Western Medical Center, Santa Ana, one of California’s largest trauma centers.
In furtherance of her broad interest in alternative healing modalities, Alice became a board certified hypnotherapist, and studied regressive and past life therapy with Dr. Brian Weiss, the world-renown psychiatrist and leader of the field, who authored the best seller “Many Lives Many Masters”. She is also certified in Medical Acupuncture and is Board Certified in Holistic Medicine.
Under the auspices of American Medical Aesthetics Corp’s extensive research in Laser Medicine, Alice was inducted as Fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery in 2000 and has since lead the clinical development of the advanced “Holistic Multiple-Modality Laser Protocols” that are the proprietary signature treatments of American Medical Aesthetics Corp.
Alice met her husband Asher Milgrom, the founder and CEO of AMA, who in addition to being trained in a conventional MD program expanded his advanced education as an I-MD (Integrated Medical Doctor) and N.MD, (Naturopathic Medical Doctor). Their meeting was balanced on the thin thread of destiny that brought the two together at an Angle’s baseball game in 1990. The two had arrived late to the game and discovering that their assigned seats were already occupied, they ended up sitting next to each other in a totally unrelated section… Interestingly, their assigned seats were no where near each other… and thus, all who have experienced the extraordinary bond between them believe that it was simply “meant to be”. They are the joy-filled parents of three daughters the oldest of whom is adopted and one son ages 15, 10, 9 & 7, and feel extraordinarily blessed to be fulfilling their lives as Healers, American entrepreneurs and as a family.
Asher, the youngest of 4 siblings, was born in Virginia to Josephine, a professor of Theology of Art, and Jacob, a rabbi and world-renown Bible scholar. His childhood was steeped in Jewish life, traditions and teachings and his home was a veritable crossroads for some of the greatest scholars and thinkers of the 20th century, from clergy of all cloths to existential philosophers and particle physicists. They came to counsel, query, debate and study, and thus Asher, basking in the glow of this intense celebration and exploration of the mind began to understand that thought was the antidote to boredom, and curiosity was the seed of knowledge.
Half of his childhood was spent in Berkeley California in the 1960s, where he navigated the turbulent social currents of the free speech and anti-war movements. As luck would have it, he managed to experience some extraordinary free concerts at “Peoples Park”, before the Grateful Dead, Deep Purple and Peter, Paul & Mary were converted to capitalism. Indeed, sporting his paisley bellbottom paints, adorned with a beaded peace medallion necklace, and tearing about on his ten-speed, he was a budding “flower-child”.
The other half was spent in Jerusalem Israel, where archeological excavations and ancient monasteries captured his explorations, and where he spent countless hours cataloging thousands of specimens of spiders for the university’s department of Entomology. However, of all his many colorful and adventurous activities, he was most profoundly impacted by his volunteering at a home for severely handicapped children. It was there that he learned how to communicate without words and listen from the heart. The work was very hard and he was very humbled… and grateful of that.
From courses in automotive mechanics where he proudly earned the title of “gear head”, to his pioneering work in underwater (in-situ) marine-biology research as a Staff Research Associate at Scripps Institute of Oceanography, his college years are an assemblage of academic explorations. He supported himself through college working as a cantor and teaching adult courses in Judaic philosophy and mysticism. It was only years afterwards that he decided to venture into medicine.
Asher received a full scholarship to attend an MD/PhD program at University of Health Sciences and the Medical School at the University of Chicago, where his field of study was neuro-biochemistry. At the very end of his training, he experienced a near-death-experience due to a rare brain infection that put him in a coma. Miraculously, Asher survived completely intact… and having “touched the face of God and lived” he felt reborn with a transformed perspective on life. Shortly thereafter, he elected to leave medicine for an entrepreneurial life, and later continued his training in advanced alternative medicine as an N.MD (Naturopathic Medical Doctor) and I.MD (Integrative Medical Doctor).
During the next 5 years he earned his reputation as a successful entrepreneur and innovator in the aviation industry while serving as the President & CEO of Air West Airlines. Many of Asher’s programs concerning airline strategies and efficiency such as "inter-regional" routing and "ticket-less travel" have since become standard throughout the industry. Asher is an avid and skilled pilot.
Asher’s next entrepreneurial venture involved telecommunications and information management technologies. In association with InfoUSA, Inc., Asher founded a joint venture partnership that developed the world’s first “unified communication platform”. In the emerging e-commerce sector he created a direct-sales organization spanning markets from the USA to the Pacific Rim, consisting of an association of over 20,000 businesses. In this capacity, he regularly lectured to business audiences in the thousands around the USA and internationally.
Starting in 1999, Asher founded and funded American Medical Aesthetics Corp. (www.amacorp.com) and is the principle architect of AMA-Corp’s business strategies and unique medical protocols. Along with Dr. Alice Pien, Medical Director, Asher developed advanced medical protocols for a wide variety of laser procedures that produce extraordinary clinical results while requiring minimal patient “down-time”. Together, Asher and Alice developed AMA-Corp’s signature laser treatments utilizing their unique understanding of “Multiple-modality holistic laser protocols”.
Strong proponents of holistic and naturopathic medicine, Dr. Pien and Asher utilize high potency vitamin therapy and hyperbaric oxygen treatment in their clinics as an adjunct to the hi-tech laser medicine they have been practicing. Their newest industry leading innovation is the integration of Physiological Regulating Medicine (PRM) treatments into their proprietary laser protocols. PRM is the most advanced form of Homeopathy and Homeotoxicology developed in advanced scientific centers in Europe.
Asher Milgrom is 49 years old. He is married to Alice Pien, who is the best thing that could have ever happened to him. Together with their four children the oldest of whom was adopted from China in 2006, Dahlia, Eliana, Chyelle and Ayron (15, 11, 9 and 7 years old), they are grateful and proud to be entrepreneurial American family.
Together with his family Asher founded the Gratitude & Honor Foundation for which he received the George Washington Honor Award, presented by the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge. (See website at: www.honor.smugmug.com)
